I've been using a piece of cardboard with some soft foam glued to it.  Easy on the old back plus it keeps small parts from bouncing all over the garage floor when they are eventually dropped.  Not a Tempurpedic but much better than cold concrete.

Definitely can't go wrong with cardboard, that being said though, I just bought one from Jegs:

and its pretty nice comparatively.
