3 speed to variable wiper

  I would like to convert my 3 speed wiper to a variable.  Is this as simple as changing the switch or is it a different motor as well?

What do you mean "variable", like on modern car that has various delays? If so, this would require some type of electrical controller. I am pretty sure just a switch isn't going to do it. I am pretty handy with electrical issues, but I believe this would require some special equipment. A guy would need to build something on a bench and test it out.

According to the link below the guy doesn't think so because the terminals aren't the same. Looks like he's going opposite of what you want to do but the idea is the same.

I also looked at mymopar.com's schematics and the wiper plugs look the same, but those are just drawings.

The way I took the OP comments were that he wants to put a delayed wiper system in his car (verses the current slow medium and fast 3 speed), so he is going to need some way to apply that delay electrically, but even then the wiper motor will move in accordance with the speed that is set. Since the wiper motor is obviously variable, I think it would be possible with some type of controller. I know Mopar had delayed wipers back in the day but I do not know how they accomplished it, perhaps a study of the C body wiring diagrams would yield some information.

What do you mean the "70 setup"? In my ebodies I have slow, medium and fast but there is no delay like you would see on a modern car.

The 1970 & 71 (possibly early '72 also) "setups" were variable speed, not delayed, not intermittent and not slow/medium/fast. The switches had one click to on (slow) then gradually increased in speed to high along an internal resistance coil (see first picture). I just double checked this in my 70 Barracuda, one click turns wipers on and they run slow then as I turned the knob the speed gradually went faster until the knob couldn't be turned any further.

The OP has a 74 Cuda (I believe). It doesn't look like his existing 3 speed wiper switch wiring harness/connector would have the same pin orientation as the "70 setup" (see second picture). Therefore not being a direct swap. This was also pointed out in the ebodiesonly link I posted earlier.

Excellent information, now I will have to go and check mine...  In my head I was thinking it was just 3 speeds; slow medium and fast despite owning 2 Ebodies and 1 70 B body.... Guess i need to spend more time in them.. LOL
