Resonators
« on: May 17, 2020 - 11:02:07 PM »
Are resonators necessary? I have dual exhaust, stock exhaust manifolds on a 360. I have a TTI exhaust system with 2 1/2inch pipes. I read that the resaon for having resonators is for noise reduction. Did stock E bodies have mufflers and resonators?  Thanks

Yes stock E bodies had both, however they were usually the first thing removed, I don't run them on my cars usually.

My car runs with only the resonators and it sounds fine.

Does it matter if you run just mufflers or just resonators, for sound supression?  Thanks

The mufflers tend to be quieter but it should be understood that in a stock E body, the system was designed to work together (muffler and resonator), if you remove the resonator, it definitely gets louder, however you will get some reverberation through the trunk, however if you remove the mufflers, it will get louder (throatier) but you tend not to have that reverberation in the trunk, at least this has been my experience. On my Cuda, I have Magnaflow mufflers in the stock location and it sounds good, but on my Challenger I only have the resonators and I think it sounds very good.
