incorrect wiper components?
« on: July 16, 2005 - 06:14:11 PM »
I installed the wiper drive assembly today and ot feels like the passenger side shaft plate doesnt aligh properly. That is, like it doesnt want to mate up to the inner surface of the cowl. With a little persuasion I can force it up against the cowl and get the bolts in but then the link feels stiff. I checked the parts book for a 72 3sp/variable and I believe they are the correct parts but there is some variation based on actual date of manufacture. How accurate are the manual illustrations? They show the transfer link to be canted or bent. Mine is straight. The drive link looks different from mine also. Any chance the donor cowl from the Challenger was different?

it appears the illustrations in the manual are not that reliable. The book shows the transfer link installed with the cup forward towards the motor. When I installed it like that it throws the passenger shaft flange plate out of plane. I flipped the transfer link with the cup facing aft, reconnected all and both shaft plates align and bolt up properly. Mechanism cycles effortlessly by hand and is smooth with no drag.

that was too easy.   ;D
