The heat technique can work but you need to be very careful as there are other things there that can be affected such as the radiator shroud etc. For things like that I normally use MAP gas, a lot easier to deal with in tight confines. All this said, you should be using tubing wrenches and not normal open ended wrenches, but since you are going to replace them, just cut them off, let them drain and then you can use whatever (vice grips) to get them off.

"The heat technique can work but you need to be very careful as there are other things there that can be affected such as the radiator shroud etc." You're right Mike, but I use a #2 tip and the heat control is pinpoint. Maybe I'm confused (ya think?) but I thought the man's issues were at the trans. Either way it works well, but as mentioned, be careful and I always have a squirt bottle of water handy as well as a decent fire extinguisher. We've never had to use it, but safe is safe.

Well like all things car related, it quickly spirals. His issue is that the flex plate is loose, but as you well know this can easily turn into a whole host of other problems and issues.

I agree with your tip/s, very handy.

Got the flex plate out, crank holes look good, converter holes look slightly egged, opinions, should I replace?  Bolts look good , I already ordered new. Check out my "engine stabilizer,"transmission jack".

If the holes are elongated, I'd change the flex plate for sure. You don't want to be doing this a second time. If the bolts look good, I'd probably reuse them, but I'd also put a wee drop of Loctite on them as well, and torque them twice.

Personally, I would definitely replace the flex plate, it is compromised. Unless the TC bolts were loose, the TC should be good.

Since you have it apart, I'd upgrade to the B&M flexplate, 10230.
That's what I did when my stock flexplate holes were elongated.

what makes you think it is good? It might be but you said the converter holes were elongated previously.

After taking a closer look the holes seem fine.

Yeah the holes don't look bad, just make sure you use a little loctite on the crank bolts and converter bolts, not a lot and not the HD crap (red), just use the blue stuff 222 or 242.
