    American Autowire Altenator Help

    All I am helping my father in law re-wire a 72 Cuda. I am using the AAW kit and am trying to figure out what alternator to use since it is calling for a single wire high output version. A diagram would be great because I haven’t seem to find the right one on google so far. This is my first go at an older car so be gentle.  Haha

    Doesn't the kit have a diagram? Your post is not clear, are you looking for a diagram for a 1 wire alternator or ? you also seem to be asking what alternator to use; do you want a 1 wire or 3 wire (stock style)? Which alternator depends on your power requirements, if the car is stock then a 60 amp will work but if you are running a big stereo, electric fan, EFI, MSD, etc. you need more like a 120 amp. You need to run all of your high demand items (electric fan, electric water pump, high output headlights (halogen), electric fuel pump, etc. off relays.

    Sorry for the confusion. Just trying to figure out how to determine which single wire high output alternator  to use. It’s a small block 340 and currently has the oe alternator mounted.

    Which alternator you should get/use is depended on your power demands/requirements. There are lots that will fit, but you need to determine what you need in terms of how much power draw you have. Do you have an electric fan, halogen headlights, electric fuel pump, big stereo, etc.?
