Rachels got a problem !
« on: August 04, 2005 - 09:09:36 PM »
Hi , Guys
Miss Rachels got a problem , maybe someone can help.
I took her out on a Packy run the other day before I started stripping out her guts to get ready for the body work and such.
She ran great all the way there, but after idling for about 5 minutes while showing off the engine to some interested parties , I tried to get on it a little when I got 'er on the street and she fell flat on her face! Like she just completely ran outta fuel. I'm running a holley electric 119gph pump , adjustable pressure regulator, 3/8 in. line and two 650 cfm edelbroc carbs.I thought maybe she loaded up on fuel , which still may be the case, but it straightened out after a couple miles , but when I jumped on it again , she died on the spot. Any ideas?

Is this the first time this has happened? It would be nice to know your setup is working correctly, then I would definitely agree with the vapor lock problem. The electric fuel pump can bring it up to the engine bay with no problem, but if it sits there boiling, that's no good.  :nono: Can assume you have headers? That's what I have to worry about when it gets  around 90. I can't get caught in traffic.

Yeah , Hookers finest!
It was all working fine , but now all of a suden this happened. I can't really do any more diagnosing right now either. I have the interior gutted and almost all of the glass removed. I'm really hoping it was just a vaporlock situation. I ran the 3/8 inch fuel line in the stock position, but around the headers , I tried to pull it to the outside of the frame rail away from as much heat source as I could.
I'm going to wait until I get the body done and get her put back together, then I'll start fussing about and see what happens.
Hey , I want to tune the carbs. the same way as the HEMI and I just can't remember how the heck I did them. I was sure that the front carb mix screws were turned in completely, and then the butterflies were shut down to something like a .023" gap. But I can't remember for sure . Any one out there got a manual for these settings?
Will these settings work as well for my 440?
