73 Challenger Inheritance from my Uncle Louis

Hey everyone nice to join the forum.

My uncle passed away recently and unfortunately he didn't get to finish the 73' Challenger he was working on. It has an engine in it that looks like it may be a crate engine From Indy Cylinder. It looks like a freaking monster. I don't have easy access so my pictures are limited but I wanted to introduce myself and get a thread going.

I plan on having a mechanic get her into driving condition in Arizona. I have no idea what options it had, I have the vin but it's shorter than 17 digits which I understand is common on cars before the 1980's? I guess there's a fender tag that I'll try to look for.

It has the engine and Transmission. The body is bare steel right now, with nothing on the inside but it's sitting on wheels.

Supposedly the engine turned over about 2 years ago. I don't know what other parts there are but I'm going to find out at the end of the month.

So I'll keep updating. If anyone knows of a way to use a vin that's only 12 digits please lmk.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the site and congratulations to your deceased uncle for his taste in cars and his generosity to you! Right off the bat, the vehicle has a non-stock engine, as none of the 73s had a big block in them. That's not a bad thing, but if you're not mechanically inclined, this might be a steep hill for you to climb. The body's condition is another issue. These cars would rot like nobody's business when painted, and naked ones just do it faster. Having said that, you may want to consider having the engine/trans removed and have the car soda or media blasted and epoxy primed to stabilize it. It looks like your uncle was a collector and you should go through all those boxes in a quest for the parts for your new car, because everything for these cars is expensive. While you've been given a great gift, you've got a job on your hands before you get to plunk your ass behind the wheel. Good luck!

Well you have your work cut out for you but its a project worth pursuing. I'd start with seeing what/where everything is so you know what you need verses what you have. I am sure there will be some things you don't know what it is but we can help you with that.

solid looking car you have there.  Let's see the fender tag readout and what the vin is.  If you list the vin, we can at least tell you what engine it had in it.  And if it's a barracuda or a cuda.

Hey everyone thank you for the warm welcome. I just got to Texas and I'll be getting the car towed to Arizona. I'll take pictures of the fender tag and post them up. The vin number is JH23H38330838. Stoked to start this project.
