17 x 9 with 5.5 backspacing fit?
« on: August 12, 2022 - 10:35:38 PM »
On my '73 Chally....

In back, I'm thinking Cragar 61C S/S Super Sport, Steel/Aluminum, Chrome, 17 in. x 9.0 in., 5 x 4.50 in. Bolt Circle, 5.500 in. Backspace, with 275/40/17 tire.

Up front, I'm thinking Cragar 61C S/S Super Sport, Steel/Aluminum, Chrome, 17 in x 8.0 in., 5 x 4.50 in. Bolt Circle, 4.5 in. Backspace, with 245/45/17 tire.

Everything is stock and I believe the fronts will be fine but I'm wondering if these will fit the rear?

The back spacing on the rear may be a wee bit too much. I'm running 18X8's on the rear of my 74 Challenger and there's not much left between the tire and the spring. I think mine were 4.5" BS. I can't offhand recall the OS of the 17" fronts, but think it was also 4.5" I'll have to check the tire sizes to be sure, but the fronts are such that if you go up a entrance to somewhere with the wheels turned sharply, it caught once on me. This is also dependent on your ride height, so you results may differ. Hope that helps a bit and I'll try to remember to check the sizes and get back to you.

Thanks for your response, jimynick. I was trying to fit something similar to the Year One Rallye wheels:
  • 17 X 8 cast aluminum Mopar Rallye wheel with 4-1/2" Backspacing or -6mm Offset and 4.5 bolt pattern.
  • 17 X 9 cast aluminum Mopar Rallye wheel with 5" Backspacing or Zero Offset and 4.5 bolt pattern.
I've seen people run this configuration without problems but wasn't sure if the extra 1/2" backspacing would be problematic on a stock setup.
