Another 72 Challenger Fuel Gauge Question
« on: April 27, 2022 - 06:07:27 PM »
I have the following issue with my 72 challenger:

1.  When I apply power my fuel gauge will only move about a 1/4" off the stop.  In other words it reads empty all the time but will come off the stop a bit.  Gauge itself tested good.  Sending unit bad???

2.  What voltage should the fuel gauge wire read at the tank connector with power applied.  Should it be a constant DC voltage or fluctuate?

Thanks in advance

1. Could be fuel in the float from a pin hole or a bad ground.

2. Depending on which voltage limiter is on the back of your cluster it'll be 5v pulsating (OEM & RTE) or steady 5v (Van's).

We may deal with the faulty fuel gauge on my uncle's new '72 Challenger project. The previous owner suspects it's the sending unit. Got to finish installing the suspension and shocks from 4Wheelonline onto the Wrangler this week before we can take her in.
