Painted Plastic Interior

Hi guys,

The kickpanels and rear interior panels of our challenger are painted.  I have tried scrubbing them, washing them with a spray nozzle and I have even used paint thinner on a rag, it still won't come off, I don't think they are dyed, because you can scratch down to the lighter color pretty easily.  I was thinking I might be able to power wash them, do you think that might work? Any ideas/suggestions are greatly appreciated.  I have done a search on this topic and everything posted was a little old, is there anything new out there that you have heard of?  I have all the tools to do the SEM dye job, but I'm afraid to try it over old paint.

Try the pressure washer at the car wash, but be carful not to get too close to the material or your fingers.  That pressure washer will peel skin and plastic fast..  As long as the old paint has good adhesion, (not peeling off) then scuff them up with a scuff pad and clean them and shoot with SEM.

Hey I thought I would let everyone know that the pressure washer at the car wash worked like a charm! Originally I was going to rent a power washer, but this was a bit cheaper, I ran out of quarters but was able to get almost all the paint off of my two kickpanels, there are a few stubborn spots that I will just scuff up and then SEM, I'll let you know how it turns out for future reference. :D

Glad it worked out for you.. BUt yeah  a good pressure washer will take some stuff off.  I used it to remove undercoating that someone had put in my engine bay. I tried chemicals, sanding and everything...  got in there with some high pressure water and it came off like a charm.
