3 speed tranny and clutch question.
« on: July 19, 2005 - 07:41:38 AM »
I am getting ready to put my motor/ tranny into the barracuda and I was wondering does the 3 and 23 spline 4 speed trans use the same clutch and pressure plate.  In the auto parts store the computor just specifies 23 spline not 3 or 4 speed.  Also the previous owner said he put a new clutch disk in before I bought it.  How can tell if the clutch and pressure plate has too much wear and if I should buy a new one?

as far as I know all 23 spline will interchange providing the flywheel is drilled for the diameter of pressure plate 10.5 -11-12 inch etc.
As for the pressure plate the only way I know to tell is to look at the face of the pressure ring ...is it blue? does it have scarring ? small heat cracks? replace it  Flip it over -are the fingers at the same heigth? does the pressure feel equal to each other ? if not -replace
On the disc there usually are rivits that hold the facing to the disc/hub and a new disc will usually have these recessed about 1/8 -3/16 on a new disc --now put it on your trans input shaft and spin it ...is it wobbling ? or does it spin true ?wobbles -replace it is warped
