How easily should the front disk brake wheels turn.?
« on: August 13, 2005 - 04:02:16 PM »
I've got a 74 Cuda with power front disk brakes...when I have the front end jacked up, the front wheels turn free, but seem to have some resistance.  I pulled the front wheel and it almost looks like the brake pad is touching the rotor.

Is this normal?

How free should the front wheel turn?

Thanks!

There should be some resistance when you turn it. A decent amount of pressure is needed to turn it, like the amount needed to open a somewhat stubborn gatorade . You should not need two hands or have to use a lot of force...kinda hard to describe

hope it helps some..

disk brake pads ride just touching the rotor as there is no return spring like on the rear drums
a slight scraping noise while the pad drags is normal but when spun should rotate about 1-2 turns before dragging to a stop

   :iagree: :iagree: :iagree:

It seems kind of stupid that the pads would be in contact at all times with the rotor, but that's the way it is. I don't believe it does much for gas mileage either.

the pads stay in constant contact to keep the rotors clean , there should be light drag as mentioned above
