833 OD info needed
« on: September 29, 2005 - 09:06:06 PM »
While on my way to work I found a '77 dodge ram 200 truck.  It has a V8 and the OD 4 speed.  I would like to get the complete engine and trans out of it to put in my challenger, but I am not sure about one thing.  The truck is a 4X4 and I thought that I remember reading that the tran from the 4X4 won't work.  Is this right?  Will the trans work at all, or is the bell housing the problem?

I have never seen an OD 833 with a transfer case attached , it is morelikely to be the a 435 tranny & not an OD & no it will not fit into your car

Crap!  The truck was surrounded by tall weeds and I couldn't get a good look underneath.   I am positive that the shift handle pattern was like this:

     R    1     3
     |_ _| __ |
           |     |
           2    OD

Does the 435 look like the 833?  Is there a way to tell them apart?

the shift knob probably threads onto the 435 shift lever , the 435 is totlly differnt to an 833 , the 435 has an internal top rail shifter while  the 833 has the external hurst shifter , if it has a transfer case it isn`t an 833
