My Next Car Will Be...
« on: September 24, 2005 - 10:54:29 PM »
I have written here before that, in addition to being a Mopar fan, I am also a Cadillac (pre-'77) fan. (I own three Caddys.)

I don't plan to buy any cars in the near future. However, I have decided that my next car will be a Mopar. The Mopar of choice being a '69 Dodge Coronet R/T 440. With auto trans, buckets and console and 3.55:1 gears. (If I find one with 3.23s, I can always change it.)

At a weekly (Friday night) car show I go to, there was a very nice '69 R/T. Here are some photos:

Two more photos. I have a feeling that the owner wouldn't want to sell his car no matter what! (And I don't blame him.)

Yeah, that one in the photos is very nice. I like the extra rear seat and trunk room compared to a Charger and I figure that the Coronet R/T costs (somewhat) less than the more popular Charger.

I wonder what a typical price for a '69 Coronet R/T is? I know they are not cheap!

Lol. That's what the guy who sold his '69 Fleetwood Brougham to me said.. "No more cars until the next year," then he bought two just a few months after he sold me his Caddy! (BTW, it may sound strange, but I plan to install a shift kit to my '69 Cad and maybe lower gears [3.15s off a limo replacing the stock 2.94s]. I figure between those two things, plus the dual exhaust it already has, the 1/4 mile time should go from the stock 16.5 seconds to low- or mid-15s.)

Do you guys think going from 2.94 to 3.15 would make much of a difference in acceleration? I don't want to go to 3.36s or 3.42s because I want to keep the engine in the torque zone (max. torque is at 3,000 rpm).

Here are two pics of another '69 Coronet R/T at the same car gathering when it was at a different location:
