71 Challenger R/T tail lights
« on: September 26, 2005 - 12:54:33 PM »
Does anyone have a picture of the correct paint detailing of a 71 Challenger R/T taillight? Mine is all black and that does'nt look right.  Also if you have a front grill picture, I'd like to see it too. I think I have a standard grill, grey color no RT logo. THANKS

I asked same question not to long ago, as far as your 71 grill goes though, im pretty sure there isnt an R/T logo on the grill anymore, i think instead they put the R/T hood decal on.  Im not sure if this is correct either but my rear taillight bezel is argent silver.  Ill take some pics today and post em up.

Guys, I feel bad nobody has responded here. I give you my un-official call... argent, argent, argent. I mean in the grill and tail panel. That's what I remember seeing at shows. The 71 Challenger didn't have the R/T badge in the grill like the 70 did.

Thanks, I'd like to see more posts, I read somewhere that the RT grill badge was dropped in 71 but what about the BLACK treatment for the grill and tail panel.  To be honest, I think I'm going to change the tail back to argent, it looks better. (the front grill is the original argent color, no corretion needed)

I am new to the board here so first of all I would like to Hello to everyone. I have a 71 Challenger R/T. The tail light panel on an R/T to be correct should be painted Satin Black with only Argent located on the very thin flat edge of the outside of the panel. That spot is less than a 1/4" wide. As for the front grille this could still be debated. On an R/T, it is supposed to be molded black plastic that is somewhat glossy. However, I know of an unmolested survivor 71 Challenger R/T belonging to a friend that has an Argent finished one. Once again Ma Mopar probably put one on an R/T. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Here's some pictures.  Hope they don't confuse the situation!  The grill on the purple car looks kinda black, not too sure.
And look: a 1971 Challenegr T/A.  Go figure!??!?!?  Sorry, couldn't find any original brochure pics of the rear.

This one's for giggles.  Not sure if this rear end is correct as there have been slight modifications done to this vehicle.  Actually I wouldn't mind one of these.

Looks like the tail panel is the correct color scheme but somebody really screwed up the "opera window"  ha ha ha
