Duster spindles on a 'Cuda?
« on: October 10, 2005 - 03:25:36 PM »
By recommendation from another 'Cuda owner I have obtained a set of front spindles off a junked '74 Duster, because I am told they will work fine on the'72 and with more affordable rotors and better replacement calipers available.  If this is a good swap, cool, but is there anything else I would need to change out to use these spindles?  Are the ball joints compatible so the tie rods will line up properly?

I've got the mid 70's A-Body disc brakes on my 70 Chally. My only question is what front brakes do you have on there now? I mean, drum or disc? The neat little thing I found out on mine, was that the drum brake line from my 70, screwed perfectly into the mid 70's A-body calliper. Go figure.

So you are just trying to switch from E-Body disc brakes, to A-Body disc brakes, because it is cheaper?

Not only quite a bit cheaper (rotors), but I am told the later A-body setup is much better from a caliper design and mounting standpoint and the parts are more plentiful for the later models.  Now, perhaps the later A and E body parts are the same, I just happened to snag the parts from an available A-body.

I am wondering if all the remaining ('72 E-body) components are compatible with this swap.

As far as I know, '73-up E-bodies use the same rotors/calipers/etc. as the A-bodies equipped with standard discs. ('73+)  As for prices, I'd assume you'd be paying around the same price. :???:
