Car transmissions are the same as they have the same length tailshafts, as long as we are talking 727 to 727, some do not have the provisions for the floor shift bracket though so double check that.
You should measure your truck tailshaft extension housing as it may be the same, there were some truck trannies that had short tailshafts however.

Okay, along those lines I now have a 440 and 727 combination that will come out of a '66 D Body (Imperial), should that be a simple bolt-in into our '72 E body?

We just obtained this Imperial as a parts car for our '64 Imperial, and with that 440 just sitting there doing nothing we are thinking of dropping the 340 rebuild and adding an extra hundred cubes under the 'Cuda's hood.

the Imp drivetrain will bolt in , the problem MAy be the linkage support bracket tabs on the extension housing if you are using the floor shift

OK, any chance the extension housing off the small block's 727 will fit the 440?

Does that just go for the stock floor shift, would an aftermarket morse cable shifter solve that one?

Thanks!

Way cool, thanks Chryco!

I'm going to do all I can to salvage this slap stick, I hate the idea off cutting off the original shifter brackets and tossing the original console.
I do have a Winters reverse pattern shifter boxed up in the shop that I bought a year or so ago, but the more I look at that swap the less I like it.
