70 Barracuda progress pics.
« on: October 29, 2005 - 11:38:32 PM »
Finally getting around to posting some of my own progress pics.  Had the car alkaline dipped which showed that the body was pretty straight but still held a few surprises.

Couple more of the hidden previous panel work but overall pretty sound compared to some of the cars guys start with.  Car is going back to Limelight and getting a 383.

Looks like you're doing a great job!  Keep up the great work!

I like the pics of the car witout the paint.  It looks like a new car being hand assemblied!

Looks like a nice solid car! Mind if I ask where and how much to get this done? First time I've ever heard of this process, always thought media blasting with aluminum oxide was the only way. Nice job on the car so far, it will be nice to watch this as you progress.

OzCuda, other than a couple surprises that are generally surfaced after stripping a car, that thing is as solid as could be for a 35 year old car!  I can't even believe the lower quarter panels had only that much rust in them!  Be sure to keep us updated with your progress as you continue to rebuild this awesome 'Cuda.

Personally, i don't think you should, i mean what would be cooler than a sheet-metal silver car? it would be unique, to be sure

although i don't know much about paint so i can't be sure how wise it would be

A coat of clear and ready to go - maybe even those new chrome finishes - blinding on a sunny day!

The car was dipped by these guys - www.redistrip.com.au  not much use to you guys in the States but at least it explains what process they used.  Dipping of the body and all the separated panels came to $3000 AU so not cheap but certainly thorough.  It does mean that I will have to pay extra attention to anti-corrosion treatments as absolutly every scrap of paint or galvanising is gone but after seeing some beadblasted surfaces (albeit poorly done), I am pretty happy with the finish.  I had surface corrosion under a lot of the seam sealer anyway so nothing lost there.  Hopefully the car is in etch primer by now to give it some protection while the bodywork is done.  Going to just replace the inner and outer lower rear quarters and trunk lid with new panels to save the guys having to hand make repair panels etc.

Once the paint is on then were making progress!!

Not bad at all!  I have always loved the look of a bare metal ebody.  Your car is going to be so awesome when it is finished.  You are well on your way!

Wow!  Wish mine looked that good.  You have a very good body to start with.  Just think you could of had one that had been sawed in half and put back together like some were.  Just wonder if any of the damage was done in factory or shipping.

Not sure what happened to the front.  I managed to get in contact with the original owner (I'm the second owner) and he only told me about a small prang to the rear and never mentioned any front end damage.  Strange as there was no longer any reason to hide that so maybe he forgot about it after 34 years (or maybe the kids had to do a cover-up on dads car that they didn't want him to know about?).  My panel beater is surprised at the rough way in which it was fixed but isn't too concerned about it.
