Progess ??
« on: October 30, 2005 - 06:53:34 PM »
Well I have had my Challenger since July25th 2005 and a whole lot of things have happened since that day. Spent a week at Disney on a great vacation. Spent a week and a half just outside of New Orleans in Metarrie, La helping my Brother-in law gut his house after Katrina. Worked my Job which requires me to travel about once a month for 3-4 days. Built my wrap around deck on the new addtion part of my house and insulated the crawl it sits on. With all of that it's sometimes surprises me I have had time to do anything on my car.
I planned on getting it stripped down to go to paint before winter sets in and I may just meet the time table. So far I have gutted the interior all except the dash, removed the bumpers and trim pieces. The motor will be pulled at the time it goes to paint.
I just get the feeling that I am way behind. I know it takes time and it will probably in paint, body work at least 18 months since it will be a complete rotessorie. But I just want to get in it and drive away.
Man it looks serious without the front grill on.

Careful there - your car is starting to look like mine. : )

We took mine out for a short trip around the block this weekend. Yessir, no hood, fenders, windshield, etc. My drivers seat was a foot stool.  The wires you see hanging out are my hot wires for my dual electric fans. (Don't have a t-stat switch yet)

We waved as we drove by one lady and she just stared. You would think she had never seen a Mopar before.

And on the opposite end, I am trying to get mine off to the media blaster this week before I leave for Disney in two weeks. It has been a long two months getting to this point. Now just 2000 more parts to detail and rebuild.  Are we having fun yet....lol

It's great watching all these projects come together.  It may seem slow, but all of you are making great progress!  Just keep at it guys...you'll get there!

The last several weeks, I have got off my butt and made some progress.  Here are some shots of the decay, damage, etc... of my rear tail panel.

Two weeks ago, I finished repairing the tail panel by welding new metal in.  WHAT A PAIN IN THE A$$ around the license plate bucket!  Then I started to do some initial body work on the tail panel and the right side of my car.  The right rear quarter had been replace by who ever had my car before me.  They did a pretty good job, but I still had to put a coat of "bondo" on where the seam is.  There are a just a couple of low spots left to get there.  The door and front fender, still need a lot of work, but as you can tell, I sprayed a coat of primer/sealer on the entire side to prevent rust.  Several places I was working on got back down to bare metal.   As far as metal work, I only have the driver's side rocker and a patch to do for the lower, left rear quarter.  Needless to say, I can't wait to get that done and dedicate the winter to getting the body perfectly straight.

Don't think things happen fast my last project has taken 5 years and it's not ready to drive yet. Here are a few pictures of my Light Gunmetal metallic 71 Challenger RT. It took me 2 years and many sleepless night to complete this 2 car garage restoration. Yet boy was it worth it as I can't get enough of these cars now.
