 Maybe it's already sold + they don't want to answer more questions about it.

 Or, maybe they didn't realize the ad was coming out this week in the paper, and are on vacation.
A few times i've called on cars, and the owner was surprised,they  didn't know it was being advertised yet....

Ok, so forgive the new guy, but what is ROB and why is a 340 considered to be next best thing to a Hemi or 440? Was the 340 a trans am only thing? I always thought they were regular production motors? Is the 383 considered to be any good, or is it just a boat anchor?

The 340 has several advantages.
-Small Block for better handling.
-X-heads (1970) for more power, than the later j-head 340s.

340 is a performance engine, there are  no other versions of it. 70 and 71 are the best years for them, because of the internal forged components; IE crank, rods, pistons.

They were in a lot of low buck light cars, they could easly handle higher revs than there bigger high cube heavy brothers. Lots of advantages as Harkonnen said, not hitting the high dollar mark yet thankfully.
383 has the torque at low end, 340 well be the high horse power rever. They're evenly match up, not sure about what is the difference in weight. 100lb 200lbs?

I don't have a ll the details but there was for the 1970 model year a special Trans Am version in the Challenger TA and AAR 'Cudas.  Came from the factory with the "6 Pack/6 Barrel" option (3 2 bbl carbs), nice unique heads as Harkonnen mentioned.  I think was it the exhaust valves were moved over to make room for larger valves or something?  The TA 340 block was also unique from the regular 340s that were rated at 275hp with a single 4bbl.

Advertised HP was 290hp but supposedly it was more than that but for insurance reasons the listed only 290hp.  Interesting thing is that the another Trans Am car, Ford Mustang Boss 302, was conservatively rated at 290hp also.  I was told some versions of those Boss 302s were somewhere close to 400hp from the factory.

As cudahob mentioned 70-71 were the better years as he mentioned and also compression dropped to 8.5:1, the engine making about 240hp.

ROB is; R(426 Hemi)0(1970)B(Hamtramnk Assembly Plant) This is where the Hemi cars were built.
The only 340 cars that are near as desireable as Hemis and 440 6pk's are the Trans Am cars that were available for 1970 only in the T/A Challenger and the AAR Cuda.
383 was also the small block in comparism to the larger big blocks, it could rev like a 340 but still have some bottom end torque.

You know I called that number for 3 days.    I even tried calling later on in the evening.   I kept getting answering machine and I did leave a message.    I of course didnt expect them to call me back but I must have called a dozen or so times...........    This has been on my mind as I wondered if it is something I have missed out on.   It was in a regional trader magazine that comes out weekly.     Time went by after the first 3 days and I just gave up on it.......

What's wrong with you? you can't give up on a car so easy, it might be in a lot better shape than you can imagine. Someone else mentioned that the best deals are local, & that is very true. Some of the cars I have bought over the years were nearby, & either in the local paper or on a front lawn with a for sale sign on it.

See this photo? The red ragtop on the right was $600 at a yard sale about 10 years ago. My wife wanted to stop, I saw the car & asked. No plates on it & the for sale sign was in the trunk because someone said they were coming back & didn't. I drove it home too.
