Anybody used House of Kolors paint?
« on: November 03, 2005 - 01:47:08 PM »
I was wondering if anyone used it before and is there any noticable difference in it specifly the black color? I want a black color that when you look at it, it looks like your looking "in" to it.

I have never used House Of Kolor's paints before, but I think you could achieve that depth look with some work in the clear coats.  My dad had his motorcycle tank painted a candied Viper blue that ended up with a very cool depth to the paint.

yea, i think the "depth" look your going for is based on the amount of clear coats your do

just think do alot and your also less likely to chip the paint :)

Go to Moparts.com and page Reflections7, Ed has a lot of paint experience and can guide you in the right direction.

That truck looks nice. I always liked the look of HOK paint. There is something about their colors that look different from anyone elses.

Back when I owned a paint store, I sold HOK paint. It's very difficult to shoot. I saw very experienced painters have trouble applying it. It's very expensive and is difficult to repair if damaged. It's really for show cars when you get right down to it. For black, I would just shoot PPG DBU with 3 coats of 2021. Wait a week, block sand with 800 grit and shoot 3 more coats of  2021. Wait 48 hours and wet sand with 1500, DA with 3000 tri-zact and buff using 3m Perfectit. Will look 3 miles deep and will be real durable. Will cost about half of the cost of HOK. We do this on a regular basis. We just finished a 77 black firebird and it looks awesome. I warn you that with black, your body work better be absolutely perfect or every blemish will show. The clear acts like a magnifying glass over black. Have fun.

I agree ^,just use a regular black as I doubt HOK is any better and clear wet sand clear to get he deep wet look.My buddy wants to paint his Monza drag car HOK candy green and even though I have done lots of painting it will be a challenge for me to get it to come out looking right.

At one point I was very interested in shooting HOC paint. After talking with some local paint shops, I decided against it just for the reason hotrod98 pointed out.
