Routing hoses around fender & firewall
« on: October 29, 2005 - 09:27:46 PM »
In my continuing struggle to get everything original on the car installed and working on my 70 Cuda, I am trying to get the windshield washer system set up. . Because this car was drag raced in its early days, most of these "unnecessary" goodies were gone when I bought the car. Got the bottle and pump. and the hoses. I also had a set of black clips from Year One for "wires and hoses" on the inner fenders and firewall. Fortunately, the drag racers missed ripping out the washer stuff that is attached to the underside of the hood, so it is still there.

Where do I put the various clips and straps on the inner fender and firewall, and how do I route the washer hose?  As usual, Year One doesn't send any diagrams, and as we know, there is not a generally available assembly manual for these Mopars.

Is there a place on the internet that this is illustrated? Any good pix? Thanks.

FY1: Super- Thanks. I have some of the white straps allready in the car, but yrears ago I bought a kit from Year One with some plack plastic straps/clips that appear tp press into holes in the fender/firewall.  Any idea what those are for or whether they are original?

There are black straps om both inner fenders. the ones shown in the above pictures are then two more that go behind the battery tray.  In addition, the white strap that is at the washer bottle is a seven hole strap not the nine hole that the repo's are.

I have the black strap in place that secures both heater hoses and the washer hose (in your 3d picture). But the kit has 3 black odd shaped clips that snap closed- They look like they go into holes in the fender/firewall somewhere. Then 2 smaller back straps with a place to insert on each end. Don't know if they are for wiring as opposed to washer hose. It would be nice if they supplied a little diagram when they sell you this stuff. Looks like your friend's hemi car looks a lot like mine.

Perhaps posting a picture of the straps you are referring to would help.  Here is the drivers side.

Yeah! The two on the purple car are the ones I was talking about! Those correct there for a Cuda? And after I looked several times at your picture #1 where the wiper motor is on the cowl,  I saw the other type of black clip at the lower right under the wiper motor. Checked my car and sure enough there is a factory hole there and one of them snapped right in! Know where the other two of that type of clips go?

All E's have those straps at the battery.  Two of the odd shaped straps go by the wiper motor, one next to the bulkhead and the other under the wiper motor and the third is on the passengers inner fender.

And then when you get to the last white one and can't figure out where it goes.

Thanks! I noticed that on my car there appears to be a factory hole in the inner fender that is directly above the bolt attaching the horn. That is about halfway from the white plastic strap that is right nest to where the washer bottle attaches to the fender and the location in your picture for the plastic snap clip. Any idea what that hole might be for? Also, is it for certain that the washer hose goes through the white plastic strap before heading down to the pump?

Hose goes through the strap.

No extra hole above the horn.

Have you thought about publishing "The Illustrated Guide to Correct Restoration of Your E Body Mopar"? Thanks again.
