    Outside Mirror Mounting Help!

    I was trying to put a new mirror on the passenger side of my  Cuda with "factory" blind nuts.  I couldnt figure it out, so I loosened the drivers side to get an idea of how they go.  Now that mirror is loose and the other is still not on.  The problem is that the blind nuts keep spinning and will not tighten, and I cant figure out how to hold them still, even with the interior panels off there isnt enough room to hold them.  I have new screws and new blind nuts.  Should there be other components/hardware? 

    I can post pics of what hardware I have as well as where I am mounting if it will help.

    Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

    There is enough room to hold the nut, you just have to contort your arm (I did it, so thats how I know). Anyhow, the factory used a rivet-type nut to hold the mirror on.....you can buy the correct nuts and installing tools at some auto stores......

    Those blind nuts act similiar to a rivet.  Once it's loose, no fixing it, without replacing.  I had similiar problem, fixed it by getting slighlty longer screw and putting a nut on the back inside the door.  If you do this, the rivet must be popped out first.

    Year one carries the nut rivets and Harbor Freight carries a nice 3 in 1 riveter. That oughta get the job done> I replaced all 4 rivets on my Cuda a couple of months ago.

    Thanks for your replies.  I guess I will be ordering some rivet nuts from year one to do the job right.  I tried to get my arm up in there but there is no where enough room.  The lip rolls over the top of the door far enough to make it unreachable.

    Thunder the only thing I'll add is ya gotta put some muscle into gettin those rivets to work. I thought I was pretty strong but they challenged me. I wound up having to put a taped block of wood against the door in line with the rivet and push hard with both hands on the riveter. 8)

    Hey thunder,
    I bought the correct 10-24 rivnuts from Home Depot of all places and they worked perfect.  They come in packages of 6 and you don't need to buy the rivnut tool.  It comes with a long screw, collar and allen key.  Remove your old nuts, insert the new follow the instructions on the package (very simple) even I could do it.

    It is possible to use the correct tool to "re-expand" the original riv-nuts.
