Not sure if anone here reads Mopar Collectors Guide, and keeping in mind who I am challenging here, I tread very lightly....
In the last issue of MCG, Galen Govier's column mentions E-body shaker hoods. Here's what he says:
- The earliest 70 Challenger R/T with a shaker was built on August 17, 1969. It is a JS23R0B car.
- There are five more, with the last one built on Sept. 28, 1969. All of them are JS23R0B R/T hardtops.
- From that date on, no shaker was found on any Challenger.
- Not a single Hemi Challenger R/T Convertible is known to exist with a factory installed shaker hood!
So, essentially, he says that no Challenger other than a Hemi had a factory shaker, and no Convertible Shaker Challenger is known to exist.
He goes on to say:
- To date, there are two documented 1970 'Cudas with the 440-4bbl and a shaker.
- There is one documented 1970 Challenger R/T with a 440-4bbl and a shaker.
This is the kicker - He says that NO authentic 340s and NO 383s with the shaker hood in 1970 are known to exist. Challenger or Barracuda!
Now, I have other sources that say this:
The shaker hood option was limited to Hemis when production began, and was later expanded to include models with the 440+6 in late June 1969, and the 340 and 440-4bbl mills in late July or early August 1969.
This source also states:
- 664 Hemi 'Cudas were built, and 14 were convertibles
- A total of 1,391 Barracudas (including Hemis) were built with the shaker hood, and only 22 were ragtops.
- Only 189 1970 Challengers were built with the shaker hood, of which 15 were S.E. models and 5 were convertibles.
Does anyone see the discrepancies here?
Since I am a restoration freak, and numbers are a big deal to me, I think it'd be cool if all of you could post partial VINS and fender tags for any shaker cars you know for a fact are factory. I'm sure there's got to be some interesting things out there. It's not that I want to prove anyone wrong, it's that I just need to know for my own freakish addiction to E-bodies.
