360 or 440
« on: November 11, 2005 - 11:04:38 AM »
I can not make up my mind on what i want under the hood. Here's a list of things the car will be used for....

1. Beating any ricers that stand in my way.
2. Showing those rich kids that the a new sports car that mommy and daddy bought them isn't the fastest car on the road.
3. I want to gain some respect at the local track.
4. Show people that it doesn't take a Hemi to make a Mopar(I would get a Hemi but then I couldn't afford the parts for it)

The 440 is heavier, but with aluminum pieces that can be reduced.  You can get alot of performance out of a small block, but the torque/horsepower of the 440 comes easier. You can run hard with the 440 without keeping the throttle to the firewall. I'd go with the big block........Oldschool

4-4-0 all the way!  While I like my 340, a 440 is the only way to go for a '68 Barracuda.

Pretty much, most everyone will probably tell you to go 440, and I'm one of them. :) Anyway, here's the next question, obviously you've stated what you want it to do, the question is, what kind of budget range might you be looking at? I'm not asking for #'s, but would you be looking to be able to get aluminum heads, or worked iron? Looking to build a stroker, or keep the factory bottom end spec's? Blown, or natural aspiration? NOX or no NOX? Let usknow one way or the other, and we will help you out where we can, take it easy.
