Rally to Non-rally?
« on: September 13, 2002 - 06:48:27 AM »
Hey,

I have a rally dash on my 72 Cuda. I hate the old gauges and they are hard as **** to see at night. I want to switch to the non-rally style since it looks like that would fit autometer gauges better.

Can I just switch the panels?

I want it to look like this:

Did chrysler sell one black like that, or are they all woodgrain? Does anyone sell one like that?

thanks

Chrysler had them in black & they just bolt in , the wiring doesn`t match between the 2 panels but that won`t matter if you are using custom gauges anyway ;)

Hey Fickle,

One thing to consider, if your 72 has stock rally gauges, the stadard set  may not fit, with out a few subtle mods to the heater control section of the dash.

The bigger spedo of the stadard gauges needs a half circle section cut out of the heater controll panel to fit.

If you go the other way standard to rally, you have a big gap left under the small speedo.

Check out this site for some cool aluminum dash inserts for aftermarket gauges.

It is not on the site but he is working on a rally insert too.

It's not here yet though. I hope I dont have to mess things up too much to get it right.

Yep, the bottom panels should be changed as well. Instead of hacking them up,  you could sell your rally ones and buy a set of non-rally panels so it looks factory. I think that the rally and non-rally wiring harnesses only differ by 3 wires(basically): the tach lead, the clock and the oil gauge instead of the oil light.
