I've owned both 440-6 and 340-6 cars. From my experience, the small block was overcarburated. Thats a lot of CFM for a 340-360. It did not run bad, but just felt like the throttle response could have been better.I played around with it quite a bit, but just never could seem to get it spot on to my liking.  Now if you ran a stroker small block, that might be a pretty good setup. As far as visual impact, the only engine with more under hood appeal is a hemi. The six pack setups look cool, and when those outboard carbs open up, they have a unique sound all thier own.
They are easy to setup, as the outboard carbs act as basicly vacume actuated secondries. They open via vacume pods, and you can change springs to either slow or speed up the opening rate and point. The big blocks take well to them, every 440 I had with a 6bbl setup on it ran very well. A well tuned 6bbl setup will give most hemis a run for it's money till that top end hemi charge kicks in.

Bottom line, if you just want performance and bang for the buck, buy a 4 bbl. If you are looking for under hood impact, get the 6bbl setup.

I agree with Hemi71. At a track we used to race at, the 6-pack setup was outlawed in the class we ran in (even though the car is an original 6-pack car). We put a worked Holley 750 carb and Street Dominator intake on it and it was just a quick in the 1/8th mile with that setup...that was a surprise for us at the time.
I will agree that it looks AWSOME with the 3 carbs sitting there and they are fairly easy to setup, but bang for the buck is better with a 4bbl.

it comes with carbs and linkage, manifold maybe more

I'll repeat, that is a steal. Seriously. Even if you don't want or need it, you can get more for it. Now if you can just find me the same setup for a 440 for that price(hee, hee).

is it worth the extra money or should i just get a good 4 brl?

Go the 4bbl route, it will save you alot of grief if you are not that profficient with carbs and may even perform better.

Hey, we can all have our dreams. Nothing wrong with that. But you have to deal with reality first. That's the main thing. Deal with the family situation. As was stated, the six-pack thing is more eye candy, but you can do well performance-wise with a 4 barrel.
