WOOOHOOO!I get to go back to work!
« on: November 17, 2005 - 01:13:42 PM »
OK,I`m not really that excited about going back to work but today I was cleared by my doctor to go back starting Monday on light duty.I do need my full paycheck back as the disability was great to have but it just barely pays the bills.I also need to start doing something again `cuz after 6 weeks of laying around taking it easy I am bouncing off the walls with boredom.Best thing is I timed it right so I only have a three day week and have four days off for Thanksgiving.Bad thing is I still can`t do anything too strenueous yet so my plow truck is still not back together and I`m getting worried about the white stuff.

I'm glad for you....I think...  No seriously, that's good news from the doctors!  How are you feeling?

Not sure I`m making a whole lot of progress yet as anytime I do something as easy as tying my shoes or sitting for more than a few minutes my back still gets sore and my leg starts twitching and gets shooting pains almost as bad as before surgery.Doc says to give it some more time as I`m just off the antibiotics for the staff and still need 2-4 more weeks to fully recover, then i can finally start some phisical therapy and hopefully improve things some more.I guess snowboarding is out for this winter-the only reason for me to like that crappy white stuff!

So what will "light duty" at work entail?  Sounds like you are going to be one tired puppy!

I work in precision sheet metal and we make anything from tiny clips to frames and cabinets 6' high x 12' long.I used to run some of the machines that punch and form the metal but now I do mainly inspection work which is checking dimensions, plating and painting to specs. There can be some heavy lifting/moving of the larger parts so light duty will keep off anything over 20lbs and no bending. You are right though, the first couple days back I`m going to be tired after having all this time off,I`ll miss my afternoon naps!LOL

That's great Torred
Back problems are nothing to mess around with and it sounds like your doing it right.                      Did you ever get a chance to diagnose the slowing  problem in the 'CUDA?  I bet bending under a double bump hood doesn't sound like fun right now.

Glad your OK

I plan on pulling the heads and having them flowed and use the numbers to decide if I should change cams or ??? but obviuosly bending over a fender pulling heads is not an option right now!Good thing I now have all winter to get things done.

Good to hear the news torred, just think before you react, you will get used to doing that after a while. As I've shared with you I had basically the same surgery a few (lol) years ago, a while back I lifted a little 110 welder out of the trunk of the car, wrong position to be in, even lifting something barely 60 lbs., I was off work for a week for "repairs". Just be careful, but your still young, you'll bounce back much more quickly. Take care friend.

Be careful with the back and don't try anything too soon.  I know from experience that it is not good to rush things.  I ended up back on disability for an extra few weeks.  I was really bouncing off the wall.

Take care of yourself.
