70 B'cuda 383 badges and markings - need pics for resto
« on: June 05, 2005 - 11:45:00 PM »
G'day Guys, Having decided to put the 383 into the barracuda and fitting the cuda bonnet as per option list, I believe this car would have had a 383 four barrell badge below the barracuda badge on the front fenders and also on the scoop bulge on the hood???  Any original or accurate pice would be great.  Thanks.

Can anyone confirm at least that both hood and fender badges would have appeared together?

I've not seen 383 four barrel emblems on any year Plymouth Ebod fender; however i can confirm seeing them on a 71 Plymouth Bbod fender. Anyone else?

I have to agree with 24now....although i've seen some books say they came with the fender emblems, I can't recall ever seeing one, and I've seen a lot of cudas! If they did come with them, I dont think they would have both callouts.

It is starting to become a bit of a mystery - I was referencing the Challenger, Barracuda Restoration Guide which indicated the fender engine badges below the Barracuda script but it had no pictures (funny - nothing but 'Cuda pics in the Barracuda restoration guide).  I have found some low res pics of two Barracudas that have some sort of emblem below the script but they are too grainy to see.  These badges are not listed with Year One either so makes it difficult to order them anyway.  It would be a breeze to buy 'Cuda badging but was toying with the idea of sticking with the Barracuda options having opted for the 383.  See if anyone can come up with something?

Ebodies have the engine emblems on the hood (power buldge or shaker) and not on the fenders.  I think the restoration guide is incorrect.  Seen them on pre-70's b-bodies though.

The Chrysler Muscle Car Parts Interchange Manual from Motorbooks lists a '383 four barrel' badge, part # 2579804 that was used on fenders of 68 Dart GTS, 69 Coronet and 70 Barracuda.  It doesn't list a hood badge other than the Cuda-383 one.  Interestingly, Year One lists hood badges for 70 Barracuda and Cuda but has pictures of the same Cuda badge on both.  As the scooped bonnet was the Cuda appearance package when added to a Barracuda, does that mean that it therfore came with Cuda badging or none at all.  Would the Cuda appearance Package replace all the badges?? (I would guess not as then nothing external to differentiate from a real Cuda).  I think my choices might be to leave the hood badges off or just make it a Cuda clone completely.  I was hoping you guys could solve the mystery.

Ive added the pics I was talking about...

Hi
I have a factory 383 Barracuda with a flat hood in New Zealand, I have taken a photo of the drivers side for you, hope it's not too late.

OzCuda is right.  The 383 4-barrel emblems are for a N-code car that is NOT a Cuda.  The 383 N-code Cuda will have the hood emblems, optional stripes and a 383 super commando air cleaner pie pan and that's it reflecting the 383.  The pie-pan probably was on the others too.  Per Galen's decoding, he said that my N-code 383 Cuda with Air had the orange motor with a Holley whereas I've seen several 383 4-barrel AC non Cudas with the carter and a blue motor so make sure what you have before painting it and having to repaint it later.  There are three different E63 motors in '70, two with 330 HP (blue) and the other with the Holley with 335 HP (orange).

The Ralley hood became a later in the year option too but I don't think they came with emblems unless it was a Cuda so fender callouts probably didn't depend on hood on the non cudas.

Thanks guys, never too late for info with the speed that panel shops work!  Interesting about the 4-barrel being blue on a Barracuda - I had assumed it would be orange.  The engine I am using is from a 66 or 67 charger 383HP and is blue.
