What Have You Got Ripped On?
« on: November 26, 2005 - 03:58:41 PM »
Well, got to thinking today about some stuff and just realized I got schooled by a guy on a truck. He lied to me on some things and never sent me all the reciepts. So, anyways just thought I would ask what's the worst thing you bought from someone and got schooled on the purchased of it. Anyways, just thought it would be an interesting topic but, please try to not flame or finger pointing. Keep it clean. That's what this board is about.

I had a 1970 HemiCuda  with a shaker hood, Some of the pieces ( in 1987 , mind you ) were missing.A person ( no names mentioned , but his initials were Jim Patty, in New Hampshire, Salem , that would be ) sold me a Shaker baseplate for $325.oo , then after I paid for it, stripped off the outter ring , nuts, spreader clips, and seal! His statement" that stuff is all extra!" He wanted $25.oo for the clips, $25.oo for the 1/4 X20 nuts, and another $200.oo for the seal ring and seal!
(if I had had a gun , I would have shot his a$$ ! ! ! ) J/K !
" the question isn't  when is he going to stop, but whose gonna stop him!"

I purchased a complete 8-3/4 rear-end and ordered it with all new components, I specifically said a 489 housing, 355 sure grip, new bearings and ready to bolt in from drum to drum. The guy said it would be 900.00 and have all new components. I saw pictures of some of the things he was selling and they looked nice. I sent him the money and the rear-end came in about a month. It looked pretty nice and I just shoved it up under the car for a couple of weeks till I could get time to install it. I got a little time to go out and check it out and noticed when I cut the straps holding it to the pallet that the axle moved in about 1/4", I started looking further and noticed that the nice hemi orange pumpkin was a 741 not a 489 like I had ordered, I  pulled the drums and there were no brakes, pulled the axles and he had smeared fresh red grease on things to make it look like it had been worked on. All old components, the rear-end was an open 355 with very pitted teeth. I tried and tried to get something done but finally gave up, The guys name is Mike Rector (should be Rectum), he lives in Stockton California for anyone thinking they are getting a good deal on a rear-end, the only kind or rear-end you will get is a chapped ass when you receive it. I learned a hard lesson and it won't happen again.
Hope this chump reads this thread, what a loser!!

This loser isn't worth the effort, if that's how he wants to make a living, someone will eventually do him in. One good thing about this is that you learn a hard lesson and may even be able to share the experiences and save someone else from doing the same thing. It's just too bad there are those type of people out there, like Mike Rector of Stocton California, Liars, cheats and bad people really suck!

About 5 years ago i got a 71 barracuda project car. Yes i had a 71 cuda(my dream car) for a bout 3 months. I bought it sight unseen. the guy said it was all there. well i got the car and it did'nt have a trunk or all 4 frame rails! the car was buckled. So i had to sell it. at the time i did'nt have the money or the know how, to fix it. Well i now have the know how, and still know money. I cant belive i had my dream car! i never drove it, but i did get to sit in it once! and ther was a time i almost had a 71 cuda from the board, but we wont talk about that.

Wolfie's . Man that was long ago! Thankfully, I've never gotten ripped off on any deal. As a NY'er, I'm way too skeptical about everything that looks too good to be true.

Oh, he's still around.....I looked at a 70 runner ragtop he had a few years ago...it was being held together by the driveshaft tunnel....i had a ruler with me, the car was sagging a full inch in the center! When i had asked him about the unibody, he told me it had some minor rust issues. I dont know where he found those cars, pretty sure it was ion the farm fields of upper Pa and NY.

About a year ago i bought a 383 off of a guy on e-bay...specificly asked him if the motor turned free...he told me it did. He's only about 45 minutes from me, so i go there to get it. When i picked it up, it was pouring rain, so to be a nice guy and not have him move his project car out into the rain, we just loaded it up in my truck and i did not check it so we'd both stay dry. I get it home and it's frozen solid....called him back and he tells me he never told me it was free, and he says "I told you it was rebuildable"   We go round and round about what is rebuildable, it obvious I'm getting shafted here.   :swear:

I'm just waiting for the right mood to strike me to make a "special delivery" of the block some nite...it just might fall off my truck onto his yard, or maybe his car in front of his house.
