Should the springs be put in?  What do they do?  Are they original or a add-on?

They are a part that should be present.  On the lower hinge, you will notice two rollers.  The rollers are not smooth, but ribbed.  The rollers roll across the the spring to provide stop points for the door so it doesn't just swing back and forth freely and slam in to another car or back on you.  New springs will make the door feel really stiff to open and close at first when they make contact with the rollers.

Only on the Drivers door correct?  I always thought that my passenger was missing parts cause it never held open.  I checked on blue71cuda's car one day and his was the same way.  I assumed that was how it came from the factory.  Is that not right?

Well.....the passenger door needs adjusted to shut more...as far as sagging.....not too bad.  The drivers door on the other hand is sagging and needs adjusted.  There is no "S" spring on the drivers side (fell off?)  So I guess I need to buy the "delux" kit that comes with the springs.  Replace all the pins and bushings and springs, hopefully that will solve the problem.  :dunno:

That is how i would approach it ,adjusting with partially worn out hinges will only be temporary fix ,these doors are to heavy for the hinges and do wear them out rather quickly. I don't think you should to much trouble doing it yourself.

all you need is a good drill bit of correct diameter (cobalt) & asmall ball peen hammer.  the doors on my project fell 3" & now they close like new.
