    Well if I were to get it i found a 71 charger 500 in junkyard that should fix the rust issue im mostly conserned with. And the engine is for sure savable. Well see no matter what I don't won't to give up this deal because I know how hard it would to find one of these again with matching engine and tranny. And well what was kinda weird is that the car had windows but siad it didnt on fender tag and also has rear defroster that wasnt on fendertag that i decoded.Someone went through alot of trouble putting that stuff in. And the only way the kid would lower price if I found one of these things he needs a mig weld gas tank, 4 speed total setup for his 72 cuda, or a center section for 8 3/4 rear end with 489 case with 3.23 sure grip.

    Definitely worth it..............  You should buy it if you have the dinero and space........ All those rust issues can be fixed with not much effort...........

    The car is not a runaway grand steal.   Easy to talk this work done, however go ahead and price it out on paper.    $4500 for the car, $2500 for engine rebuild (thats absolute minimum an wont get you a hot rod)  now cost out the floor pans,  a rear quarter replacement, several and I mean several contingencies you had not figured on, body and paint work on this large a car $6000.    OH yes lets not forget the interior, another $1000.......do the gauges work?   Is the wiring all good?    Now lets tackle the cowl issues and the costs to cut out and replace.     I did this recently myself and still spent alot of time cutting out, spot welding, filling in with fiberglass and or bondo, and refinishing,  not everyone is ready to tackle this.     This car will have a minimum of $18,000 in it <if> you wanna a nice car with fit and finish.    Hmmm not so pretty now.   Now lets look at 71 Chargers,  yes it does have a matching numbers engine lets give it that, but 71 Chargers and not yet on top of the heap.   I not saying the car is a fair bargain but a steal..........NO!    The average body man would impale the owner of a car to do all this work.......  he would be thinking Sweeeeeeeet!   i got a job for awhile.

    There is a lot of work required to repair that rust properly, if your thinking differently, then your just going to be patching it.  I can see easily spending 20K on paint and body alone! But I am talking bare shell resto.

    Yup, nice break down gomangoRT/SE!   :thumbsup:

    A while back ago I coud've got a '76 Trans Am for $200-$300.  Same deal.  Thought about what it needed.  I said forget it because once I thought about how much work it'll need, I could've bought one up and running for a lot less.

    This car is doable.  Just a matter of how much you want this car.  It is a nice project.  :grinyes:

    Hey 1972Cuda, welcome to the site!  And GoMangoRT/SE, you did break it down quite well for him.  I'd have to agree with your total cost involved when the car is completed, but you may be able to think of it as a better deal if you can do paint and bodywork yourself. (or know someone in the autobody business who will give you a deal.)

    but no means am i claiming this to be a steal. just a fair price for what it is. i would not recomend this car to somebody that isnt going to do at least 90% of the work.
    i would rather see somebody driving this down the road then it sitting next to my garage for who knows how long before i get around to it. everytime i see any car just sitting like this i wanna cry. im not to keen on parting out a real numbers matching rt either. as far as the rust goes ya it has plenty but i only wish my cuda started out this good.
    if i where actually doing this tomorow id plan on doing both front floor pans, right quarter, and left rocker area. plus a cpl small areas using small pices of sheet metal. pricing out the metal is about $550 plus shipping. then the body work which sure if you are paying somebody to could easily rack up quick. but with about $2000 and lots of elbow grease it could look very respectable. as far as rebuilding the engine it dosent need much you could probally even get away with re-ringing it and bearings maybe freshen up the heads gasket kit waterpump etc. doing the work your self $2500 could easily cover the engine. clean out the interior recover the front seats. replace headliner and carpet. do a complete brake job. but most of this is the case with any project car but that is what it is a project, a hobby.so for a little over 10 grand some one could have a nice numbers cars. i dont know about other places in the country but around wisconsin here i cant find anything even close to that.
    if i actually had a place to keep it out of the weather and i was farther along on the cuda id love to keep it.

    but thats not the case and i have two other body styles in the driveway that i prefer. i hope i can see this car on the road some day if nobody really wants it complete i might have to brake down and part it out. but that would make me sick to :sadwavey:
