Rear Defroster
« on: December 07, 2005 - 04:18:54 PM »
Hi,

I am looking at putting in a rear defroster in my Cuda.  I would love to put one in with the speaker adapter, but it seems a bit bulky.  Does anyone have a picture of one mounted in the car and how does this work.  Does it pull air down through the speaker?

I have attached a picture of what I am talking about.

Appreciate it.

Jerry

Hey Mr291.  We have one installed...it's not too bulky in my opinion.  Here's a pic before we finished hooking up the vents.

Thank you Rev!!!  :worshippy

There is NO way it would pull air through the speaker. The air comes from the trunk. A pretty neat setup for 1970, I would say. So in case you are wondering, it wasn't some kind of warmed air blowing up there.

I just bought the same adapter and motor setup off of Ebay and will be installing it soon. Am tryin to track down the defroster switch and 4hole switch panel (or overlay) that goes with with it.  PG Classics has repro'd that adapter if anyone needs one

I gave up looking for the 4 whole panel at least for the ralley dash (in the 1980"S) they were all gone so I would believe now they would be impossible to find unless someone is repoing them! I got a switch out of a believe it was a charger! it looks to be able to mount under the dash! it has a metal little piece that says"defogger! not really stock but I couldn't find the dash 4 hole panel piece so I gave up! Good luck!! and thanks for the pictures Rev I was wondering how to mount the thing!!

Yes, I got the same switch but am going to see whats out there. My three hole panel looks like the 4th switch would install if I cut the hole and mounted a 4hole overlay. Not sure but am gonna ck it out

Also there were some guys on Moparts that say that it really wasnt a very affective option. I thought it would be a great way to add an additional heat source to the passengers in the back seat.

There is no heat...it just blows air to defog the rear window.  It does work, we've used it, but it does not supply any heat... just re-circuated air.

I believe it pulls heated air from inside the car thru. the speaker opening, right?

Thats the way I remember it, speaker mounted below, air comes in from the speaker grate on the rear deck. but again 30 years ago, neither one of my cars has it, but I'd like to put it in the 74 . Rich.

I have not even considered spending any money on the 74 yet, still got a long way to go on the 73, if you still have it a few years down road I'd take a gander at it! Rich.
