convertible door problem! Help!!!!
« on: December 22, 2005 - 06:34:53 AM »
I am working on my 70 Challenger Convertible, I changed the driver side door with a door from a hard top.  I know there is an extra stricker pad on the convertible door and Jam.  I removed the stricker from the jam, but my door won't open.  The mechanics appear to be working but it wont unlatch from the post.  Any help would be appreciated.

I did this same change on my car.  It is most likely an alignment mismatch between the door latch and the post.  Adjust the post up/down, in/out and see where you are at.  The door itself needs to be properly aligned with the rest of the car, too.  Lube the latch mechanism and try closing the latch and opening it (without closing the door) to verify it unlatches by itself (spring loaded).    :working:

Unless anyone else out there knows differently, I believe the doors are all the same - no difference for hardtop vs. convertible.  Convertibles, of course, used an additional brass striker (or bumper) on the upper portion of the door and door jam.
