What is the original colour worth?

I'll be painting my 'Cuda soon. It was originally Ralley Red however when I bought it somebody had painted it Lime Light. I'd like to change this to Sassy Grass Green but am wondering how much extra value is in a car that is it's original colour?

That would depend on if it were still all numbers matching or not. If not... go with what you want.  It won't hurt the value, and you'll love it even more.

  with Mike if you got numbers matching I would keep it the original color. if its not do what you want to do.

Also depends on your plans,if you are going for a stock resto it would be worth more the original color but if it`s modified at all it won`t affect the value as much.

I have a #'s car. Was B5-Blue in and out but someone painted it White in the late 70's and I'm not a huge fan of B5-Blue so I kept it white and changed all the interior to black. I will never be selling this car and wanted it built for me, not the next buyer.

You will loose value IMO changing paint depending on rarity can set you back $10,000 in some cases more/less.
But being down here in New Zealand correctness doesn't mean too much, these cars are still high value with a T/A Challenger in good condition, not excellent, selling for $75K and recently a 70 triple black Charger going for $75.

My car is still numbers matching just not 100% correct.

The difference in value can never justify being unhappy with the car because its not painted the color you want. If you plan on keeping the car for a while, then the choice is easy......paint it whatever color you want. My car is an original R/T SE with 383-4, black interior, and orignally F8 green......when it is completed it will be go-mango w/ gold pearl, and maybe have a 400 stroker. I also already changed the car to power steering, replaced the stock 3-speed with a 4-speed, and have a 3.55 posi to replace my factory 3.23 open. So basically the only part of the car that will have what came from the factory will be the interior. Unless somebody looked on my fender tag, they would never know the difference. Some people may not like it, but its MY car and I will be happy knowing that it was done the way I wanted.

Hello all,
I found this an interesting thread as I was thinking about colour for a 72 Barracuda, with a 318 motor. If I was lucky enough to own a hemi or other special edition cuda/challenger I would want to stick to original colour. However the new technologies for coatings has resulted in some very cool metallics,by using colored micas/aluminums that I think would look awesome and display the car bodies in a way that couldn't be done in the 70's.
For newly manufactured vehicles, the paint is still the most expensive part that goes into producing the vehicle.
When my car is ready, I will pick a high tech version of an original colour, I think it will turn some heads and keep people guessing.
