Blacking Out the Front & Rear
« on: December 18, 2005 - 12:32:21 PM »
Okay I know some of you all have seen my thread about where I'm going to fixing up my Challenger. I was wondering what is the correct way to black out the rear & front of my car. I have a base model 71 Dodge Challenger Coupe and I was wondering what piece I need if any to black it out. Also, what color black paint do I use to do this with?

If its a base model it seems to me that the front and rear were argent silver and not black out.

The 1971 Dodge body service manual shows Ditzler code 9000 to be the black used for striping and grilles.  You can try a small amount to make sure it is right.  If you choose to go with the silver textured paint the code is Ditzler DNA-8575. The factory black had no texture; whereas the silver is textured.  You can see that to do the black properly you will need to first strip the silver off to arrive at the factory look.

Thanks guys. It's that textured silver now. Sorry if I confused people but, I plan to black it out to make it more like an R/T.
