body Dolly

My 71 Challenger is coming home from the body shop shortly and no longer needs to be on the rotisserie. Due to space restrictions (wife can't park in the gaarge), I was looking for a body dolly for the body to sit on while I work on the rest of the car. Does anyone know who makes them or sells them?

I fabbed up some dollies that bolt directly to the unibody using parts from HF and some tube metal. I strongly recommend avoiding the HF tube tires as they can't hold the weight. Also note that in my setup, the majority of the weight is on the back dollies.

How did you secure the back dollies? I can't tell from the pics if you bolted  them on and to what. Thanks for the pics. They are giving me some good idea's!

looks like he fabricated a mount plate that uses the stock front spring hanger location.  I assume he welded some studs to the mounts plate?

Yeah, picture 2 shows the left rear dolly attached to the forward spring mount for the left leaf spring.  Could be studs on the plate or he might have threaded the plate and bolted thru the spring mount.

I like Steve's setup and here's an another idea I got from OneBadHemi, easy to build for front or rear. I haven't built the rears yet but the fronts work great, go to Harbor Freight for the casters, 14.00 a piece for the swivel pneumatic style. The nice thing about these bolt on ones is you can still move the car around  with the rear end in or out if you make the four of them. I added the cross brace just for side load but don't think it's really necessary.  I haven't had any trouble with the pneumatic but haven't drag raced it with em on it yet!    They just make it roll over the little rougher surfaces a little easier. Either way looks good to me. Just let me know if you need any dimensions.

Give HemiDog a cigar. I believe that I welded studs in the tube.

I got all of the dollies at HF. 

LISTEN UP!!!!   Do NOT use the pnuematic tires on the rear of your car! I did and you see what happened. I ended up swapping over to the hard rubber tires. There are probably pnuematic tires that you can get that will hold that much weight, but the ones at HF are rated at 300# a piece. Not nearly enough for the rear.

Now, for you guys who still have suspension pieces under the car with tires on them, there are plate dollies that you can also get at HF that go under the tires and allow you to roll the car side to side and so forth. I used those when the car was still together.

Those look like some awesome set-ups but I don't have a welder to make them. Anybody want to sell a set of them?

This is an excellent excuse to go out and buy a welder! You'll have the car on dollies soon, so I assume that there's going to be more to weld!

If that's not in the cards, get the square and flat steel and make all of your cuts....that's 90% of the work right there. Find someone at your local cruise night to weld the pieces up for a six pack!

I didn't want to weld mine either so I just made it out of wood lying around outside.  Real easy
