rear shock removal
« on: December 23, 2005 - 04:14:18 PM »
I tried to remove the old rear shocks on my barracuda today.  The bottom bolt broke so it was easy to get that off.   :stomp:  Then I was able to get the nut off for the top of the shock, but could not get the bolt out to remove the shock for anything.  I tryed to pound it out and I tried to turn it out, but it just would not budge.  Its as if the bolt and shock have become one, which would not surprise me.  Any ideas because I am out of them?

There is a metal sleeve that the bolts slides through. Chances are, everything is nice and rusted together now. Any chance you can slide a large flat blade screw driver up there where the nut was, and try to use the screwdriver as a lever to force the bolt out the other side?

I dont think so Mek.  I was trying that and there is very little room to get any decent leverage.

:iagree:

Bottom bolt broke? You will need a new spring plate as this is a stud welded into the plate.
