Hard to read.
« on: January 06, 2006 - 02:43:49 PM »
Well I'm about a week or 2 away from sending the Chally out to body and paint. It should have happened a month ago but it's just bee to cold to work for long on stripping her down.
I have tried to come up with ways to save what I think is my build sheet which was glued to the floor under my carpet but I have run out of ideas so when the car gets stripped of it plum Crazy color whats left of the build sheet will be lost forever. Before it goes I just wonder if someone could look at  it at help to decifer. I'm just not sure what I'm looking at so any help would be great.
I have posted the picture larger to help bring out some details.
Thanks

Thats the top right side of a build sheet....if you want, send me a file of it, and I'll print it out and compare it to a blank i have and try and get what info i can out of it for you.  Sounds like a good "Challenge" to me!     LOL

So sad--you might find another sheet at the drivers backrest behind the plastic panel, attached to the top of the glove box, above the headliner, maybe under the seat springs. As I understand, they could put them almost anywhere. Also I've been told that they can't be re-produced.  Lots of luck.   P.S  Do you have the fender tag. Located on top of the drivers side inner fender?  That will give you a lot of info on your car.

I have the car almost totally stripped and no other build sheet. I have not heard about them being reproduce. Do you have any other info on that?
I do have the fender tag along with the strip of metal found under the fender tag that was used to show completion at various stages in the line.

Wow, tough situation!  If that gets stripped and painted over it's like part of the history of the car is gonzo.  That would put me in a bind.

Too bad there isn't a way you could preserve that part of the car when it's stripped and put a coat of clear over it to preserve it so at least you can still see it.  Just my wierd idea.  Hope you can figure out the codes!

A really stupid idea but I'll throw it out anyhow:  Do I dare suggest if it's a small portion of metal that we're talking about and you REALLY want to save it and since you're sending the car out anyway to have the body work done on it, what about cutting out that small area of floorboard? :22yikes:  Sounds stupid but if you really want to save that bit of history of the car and it's important to you to keep what's left of the build sheet.....

I can hear it now already:  :swear:

You have a pic of the sheet already, just save it on a CD. Also, take some standard 35MM shots of it. Dont cut the floor pan up for it! The small additional tag is a line inspectors stamp tag...see the small lettered punches on it...it was punched by an inspector after he inspected the car at places along the assembly line.

Thanks for running the fender tag 1970 I had done that a while ago the only difference I see is  the N21 It is actually M21 = drip rail molding. Sometime those are hard to see unless you have it right in front of you.

Super Blue
I don't think I could go ahead and cut out good metal. My floors are in such good shape and the only metal i need to replace is in the trunk although it would be one way to preserve it. I am considering clear coating it since its not something you will ever see but the darn thing is so brittle a breeze just knocks it apart.

Ya, your floors are pretty nice.  Just a goofy idea.  Desperate situations require deperate ideas!  :D

The photo idea might be the most reasonable way to go as hemi71 suggested.  I'm out of ideas.

Yip, you'd be silly to cut it. You can drive a car, not a build sheet.
You have photos so documenting it isn't a problem.

Try using a hair dryer set on half way for a good 30 minutes and see if that helps.  :dunno:

Clear coat it in place :2cents: That way it's there, and it won't show anyways. :smokin:
