Couple more questions
« on: January 01, 2006 - 03:09:24 PM »
What's a Rim Blow? I have one of those huge simulated wood steering wheels. I don't like it.
Why do I have an extra gas filler tube in my trunk that goes nowhere?
I have chrome trim on the front lip of the front fenders near the front window extending to the hood. Is this original?

I may be schizophrenic,
but at least I have each other

A rim blow is a very expensive wheel that is fairly unique....wouldn't recommend it unless you have a grand to waste. If you want a less clunky wheel that is inexpensive, then look into the knockoff tuff wheel that Grant makes, there are a couple of us that have them and I love mine. I have no idea about an extra gas filler tube....need a picture to know what you're talking about. The chrome on the fenders sounds like the trim on SEs, so if your car is a SE then its original.

I'll start. A rimblow is valuable, even if it's in baaad shape. They are rare on 70-71 E-Bodies. A decent one goes for over 1K on E-Bay.  :22yikes:

About the extra filler tube... I have no clue. Can you post a picture?

That chrome trim you are talking about is valueable.  :grinyes: If you have the piece on the hood, even better.   That, along with trim pieces along the tops of the doors, and rear passenger's side windows were on S/E model Challengers. I've seen complete sets go for big $$$.

71 issue only- vapour recovery system.

4 tubes from the tank to the " tube " and one more that went to the special 3 port cap on the valve cover.

after that year they then went to the cansiter in the front!!!!

I'll take a stab where your fender trim is concerned. If your car is a 71, it could not have been an SE "model". In 71 it could have been ordered with one of the "packages" that were created by splitting up what used to comprise the "SE model". The Challenger SE Moulding Group (code A63) got you the chrome trim which would be found on top of the rear quarters just outside the side glass, trim on top of the doors just outside the glass, rear edge of the front denders, and at the rear of the hood.
There was also the "Formal Roof Package" (code A78) which made a vinyl roof necessary and got you the smaller rear window and, i believe, the felt-on-perforated-board headliner and overhead console.
Do you still have your fender tag? I believe that since A63 and A78 refer to a "package" or "group" instead of individual items, they should show up there if that's how the car was ordered when new.
