original wiper arm finish?

Mine are black but appear to have been painted. The paint is flaking pretty bad and was wondering if it should have been bare aluminum or steel?

I thought they were stainless??

Yeah, mine are a metal finish too.  Mine cleaned up real well with scotch brite.

  Does it look like you would be OK if you just stripped the paint completely off?  They didn't come painted back in the day, but that might be an interesting look.

yes, they look like a stainless finish underneath. I got my NOS motor from the wiperman and am going to get around to installing those soon. I guess it might help if I put the glass back in first
