machting paint
« on: January 04, 2006 - 03:46:24 PM »
:Since I took my motor out I decided to paint my engine bay. I went down to the loacal PPG  paint storeand get a quart panther pink paint . When I got home and check the color to my car it was`nt even close. The color on my car is alot darker.I I got my  car painted about 5 years ago.since the auotbody is gone So couldn`t ask them for any  paint. I know  paint company`s colors differ alittle but that much I dought .When I went back todayI brought my fiber glass bumper with me so he could match it   It took abought 45 min of adding alittle of this and alittle of that . But when he was done it was perfect .and he didn`t even charge me for it .I can`t say enough about the guy behind the counterI thought he went above and beyound to see I was happy. Just makes me wonder what color my car really is.( :jumping:

Did the shop use a scanner on the paint??? I had the same problem matching colors on my dad's car and we never did get the original color, after 4 tries it was decided that the whole car should be repainted. Glad it worked out for you.

He did use a scanner but the color was a little liter than my bumper. He said the promblem was that he could`nt get the scanner on a flat enough surface. and it was proubaly letting in alittle light. He said if I had flat piece of sheet metal it would of been deadon.

I have had to have the same thing done where it had to be matched by adding this and that to get the correct color as the scanner color was off. Glad this worked out for you and makes me wonder if the body shop that painted the car mixed their own paint and made it the way they were supose to. I have also seen where different paint companies such as PPG or Dupont colors come out a shade darker or lighter when you mix the paint up and have to adjust the mixture to match the paint.

Very nice car Justin!  I like your blacked out grille, it looks good with the vinyl top.  My grille is all pink, I never really cared for 72-74 Pink Cudas with the Argent grille.
