1971 'cuda clone
« on: January 10, 2006 - 01:24:48 PM »
I just purchased a 1971 Gran Coupe that I am going to clone as a 440 'cuda. I am pretty sure of what I need to make it a clone that only the vin number will tell the truth but I am not sure. I have the hipo manifolds, the dual snorkle air cleaner, the correct valve covers, intake, carb, 26 inch radiator, chrome exhaust tips and rear valance with the cutouts, the door panel emblems, hood emblems, bulge hood ( although I am still considering a shaker), gilled fenders, tailpanel emblem, and the tailpanel trim as well. If anyone knows if I have missed something please let me know. I know about the rocker moldings, and the style of seat pattern.

you'll need the trim that runs on top of the door and the little trim that runs all the way around the tail lights too.

Don't you have the leather seats in you gc? The seat covers for the leather seats are so much nicer than the regular seat covers. I converted my gran coupe to a cuda and have never regretted it.
You need the chrome headlamp rings and depending on the color, you will need to paint the grille to match. Other than that I think you pretty much have it covered.
I don't think that the door top trim is standard on cudas. My last real 71 cuda didn't have them.

How far do you want to go?   How about hemi rear suspension, bigger torsion bars, skid plate on K member, torque boxes. Is the car an original 26 inch radiator, if not, you'll need to change the radiator support.

Thanks for the info. I've got the trim on top of the doors (factory option on this gran coupe) and the trim around the tailpanel. The car is also a factory 26 inch radiator. The car has the heavy duty suspension for the small block which if I'm not mistaken is the same as the standard suspension for the big block. The car has the 11 inch rear drums and power disks up front. I'm going with the gran coupe leather/vinyl combo on the seats because I too like them better. I also have the chrome headlight bezels and the car will be painted tor red (aka hemi orange) with black billboards.

I'm shooting to have the car finished by middle of March. I have a large car show in the beginning of April that I want to take it to, Kool April Nites up here in Redding CA. Trying to get the Mopars represented up here. Not to many show up each year, but there are usually at least 2 hemi cars which is nice.
