Computer help, PLEASE
« on: January 23, 2006 - 12:18:48 AM »
My web browser crashed.  When I tried to reopen it, it said that my current browser profile was already in use, and I had to create a new one, so I said no, and restarted my computer.  It said the same thing again, AFTER the restart.  So I had to create a new profile, to get back online.  The problem is, I lost all my saved favorites, and all the passwords saved in my password manager.  And, I can't get back to my old profile.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.  My browser is Netscape, btw.

That same thing happened to me a couple months back (with netscape). I tried over and over to get the favorites back, but was unsuccesful. I even had a couple of friends from college try (they were computer maintainence majors) and they didnt have any luck. One of them said that with an expensive program he could probably retrieve them. The program was soppose to read so called "erased" files. Anyhow, I remembered most of my passwords so I didnt have to go through all the trouble. However I still dont have all my bookmarks back :hyper:

This happens with Firefox a little bit.  Maybe 2 or 3 times a year.  Happens when I close the program sometimes.  If I re-open it and it says this I can always fix it by doing ctrl+alt+del and go to the "processes" tab.  There will be two instances of Firefox.exe under there, but none under the programs tab.  I just close the instances of Firefox and all is better.  Maybe that is of some help?
