What would you suggest?
« on: January 17, 2006 - 08:15:37 AM »
I have a 440 with the 440 torquer intake, smog heads and an old 780 dual feed Holley.   Cam is the purple cam (I believe its .284 - .484) and 3.23 rear end.  With about a thousand dollars to work with, what would you suggest would be the best improvement I could make?

Headwork ? Whats you're C.R. ?  Bowlport, and mill the heads .050", add adjustable Valvetrain when doing this.

Just my thoughts, if it's a low CR deal.

:iagree:  Won't go wrong doing this. And you can do it for $1000.00.  I would go with a 3:91 ratio.   :cooldancing:  .........Oldschool

do you have stock pistons & what year 440 , it may be best to rebuild & port a set of the closed chamber heads to bump the compression

Headwork (valve job, bowl work and milld porting should run about $700) check with these guys.

A new ring and pinion set should be about $150 + $150 for installion costs
