Ditch my posi?
« on: January 22, 2006 - 03:00:09 PM »
I want to get some aftermarket heads like edelbrock rpm but I can only afford one. Since one side of the engine will be faster should I ditch my posi? Just kidding. Is this a good upgrade from the smog heads and also what exactly is a dakota throwout bearing?.

hard to say if it is a good upgrade without a lot more info on your combo 1st is this a small block or big block
Eddy Heads are not a true bolt on head , be prepared to do some work to get them on your engine , also if you have low compression now alum heads will  lose close to 1 point of compression which will Not help power due to heat loss to alum , you will need to use a top quality gasket as wel such as the Cometic gasket or be prepared to change head gaskets regularly generally speaking the Eddy heads will have better flow than production iron heads
the Dak pilot brg is a roller brg not a bronze bushing , & it is pressed into an alum puck that fits int he Torque converter hub in the rear of the crank
Definatly ditch the Posi , it is a GM part

You'll also need a sky hitch adaptor for the Edelbrock heads before you install them. Oh, and don't forget to get the head alignment tool also.

Dont forget too add Hi-Po tail-light lenses & a Honda Civic exhaust tip.  This should add about 20 mph & take 2.5 sec off qtr mile times.   Ovmf

Just do the math and figure out the difference in power from side to side.  Then place unequal sized tires on the rear to compensate for it.  Wasn't that easy?   lol   :roflsmiley:   :cooldancing:   ....Oldschool
