    Engine block date vs car build date

    The  engine in my 1970 Challenger RT/SE is not the orig so I am toying with the idea of finding a date code correct block / heads....so how far out should casting dates on heads/block be vs cars build date?

    PS my build date is Sept 1969. Orig motor 383 Magnum

    PSS anyone got an extra?

    Why spend that kind of money on another engine when its non numbers anyway?To me i wouldnt give a rip once the original is gone it doesnt matter what the date code is,put a hemi in it.I can think of tons of other things to spend that money on.Just my 2 cents worth

    In the future, it would be harder and harder to find a date code block that is also a decent engine.

    Mine engine was build 3-5-70; car was built 6-18-70, so maybe 4 or 6 months.

    I got another 340 with a date code of 1-7-70 that will run the car.

    I dont know who originally started this "date code" thing way back when.To me who cares if the original is gone?It will never be a numbers car again unless you find the original so why bother?Last year I sold my 68 charger r/t.4 speed dana track pack car,original engine was gone and most people didnt care and nobody asked if it was correct date code.I guess i just dont see the logic behind it.But to each his own,I'll get off my pedestool now,lol

    anyhting 3-4 months ahead of the car build date is typical 6 months prior wuld be max generally

    the onlything date coded motor gives a person is the ability to forge numbers matching.  really date coded doesn't matter.
