Rallye Dash Gauges installed
« on: January 05, 2006 - 12:25:26 AM »
I got my gauges all done and installed them in my 70 Cuda 340 project. I put the wood grain decals on and also put a decal on the tack as the numbers and colors were faded alot. I also up dated the clock to a quartz movement as my Challenger has had one in it since 92 and has been trouble free. It all turned out very nice and I hope I don't have to pull them out again as the outer wood grain bezel was pretty hard to get in as it tried to hit the new dash pad like the pad was made to big next to where the clock sits in the dash. Here are a few pictures.

It looks great.  That woodgrain bezel is a pain to put in though.  :swear:

nice job - I havent installed my panel yet. Am upgrading my switch panel to 4switch panel with rear defroster. I would like to do something a little different with the dash flood-light illumination but we'll see.

Looks real nice!!!
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

I bought a new decal for my tack and installed it myself. I bought the quartz conversion for the clock and installed it myself. Cleaned up all the gauges but remember the lettering is painted on and you don't use anything harsh that will remove the painted items on the gauge face. I also bought a cloth polishing bonnet for plastic and buffed the clear plastic lens with finesse-it polishing compound. I bought a new woodgrain bezel insert and installed it myself with very little problems. You can buy plastic polish and polish out the fine scratches in the clear plastic lens by hand it just takes longer. Prices are as follows as far as I remember. Just take your time and follow the instruction and anyone with some mechanical know how can do this. The needles just push on but you must be careful not to break them pulling them off.

Tack decal                      $15.00
Quartz clock conversion   $58.00
Woodgrain bezel overlay  $27.00 on ebay

Nice looking Dash you got But the question I have is How many mile did the car have on it and if down the road some should happen that you have to sell the car did you have the correct milage on the car, I don't know any thing about this but if I see a car with low milage  I'm think that I getting a nice car  maybe I'm just talking out of my Butt, and don't know what I'm talking about, Maybe I shouldn't be senting this in, so what do I know

This was a progect car and never came with gauges so I have no idea what kind of miles were on it. That is why I decided to have zero miles and start from there and will be able to tell how many miles are on the Cuda since it's restoration.

milage is considered insignificant on cars over 10 years old according to dmv.

Where did you buy the plastic scratch polish stuff? I have a scratch that is kinda bad.

Also, did you paint your needles, what kind of paint did you use?

You can get the finesse-it compound at a local paint supplier as they should have polishing compounds. The needles were painted with a orange base so they would not be shinny that also came from my paint store.
