Another new dog thread
« on: February 20, 2006 - 10:32:55 PM »
So here are some pics of the dog we found at a dead end road

I found her out in Maricopa during a junkyard run and it was obvious that someone had dumped her as we asked the local folks and no one had ever seen her before. It was easy to find out because everyone lives on at least 10 acres and there are only about 3-5 properties in the area.

No name yet and we are not sure what mix she is but in doing some research it looks like she is black or chocolate Labrador and Chow Chow.  About 3 1/2  months old and smart as a whip. She has never had a collar or a leash before so maybe she was dumped by a breeder or maybe she was a Christmas puppy  :swear:
Anyway, my wife seems to be allergic and we may need to give her away but a buddy of mine said he will take her if need be
(pics are when I first got her home before her bath)

360 you got a good heart for rescuing that pup. I will never understand how someone can live with their self dumping a poor little innocent pup off like that.

Same thing happened to me and my brother about 5 years ago. Found a puppy that was only about 1-2 months old in the middle of the road miles from any house. We asked the closest places and noone knew who owned him. Basically the same sort of dog, lab mix of some sort. Black and white. He spent the weekedn with us at the campground, car show weekend, and my parents still have him. Great dog. Oh yeah, we named him Cooter..lol.

cute dog. We adopted abandoned cat, basically people that we know told us that this cat just comes to their cat since neighbors moved out. So we took it home and have it since.

Cute dog alright. Did you take her in or call your local SPCA? (Animal Center)
Maybe they have been called and informed about this missing dog, someone may be looking for her.  :dunno:

Awww....poor puppy!  I don't understand people who do that!  We were at a park once and watched a car pull up, the people put a can of tuna on the ground and a cat by the can and just drove off.  I couldn't believe people could be so cruel.  This cat must have been a couple of years old, definately not used to finding it's own food.  We took her in for the weekend and found a cat shelter that won't exterminate them, but will keep them there until they find a home for them.  Sad, sad!  You did a good thing 360!! Looks like you might have a time separating your daughter from that puppy though!

I hunt around Maricopa quite a bit.  There are a lot of feral dogs running around the older 10acre and a trailer communities there.  Nobody really owns them (cause then they have to take responsiblity for them= $$).   A lot of the Indian Reservations get the same thing.

Theres enough garbage and water sources and "kind souls" that leave food out (and just people who let their dogs run wild, because hey, they got 10 acres and a trailer what other reason do I need ?) that easily support a feral or uncontrolled population.

The feral dogs dont let you get too close, but maybe a puppy wouldnt be as fearful, did you have trouble picking up the pup ?

Several occasions around Maricopa while I  am Coyote calling, I have had  packs of 5-8 dogs that were all different sizes (and yet apparently all related by shape and color ) come in to my stand at once,  and single or pairs of dogs, and there wasnt a house or trailer for over a mile and nothing but empty desert.    If the coyotes can catch a dog alone, the dog becomes lunch.  Even the small dogs are safe as long as they pack up, and they do just that.

You just havent lived until you have had a gang of Lhasa Apso/beagle/heinz 57 mutts run up to you in "attack mode", thinking you were a poor hurt little bunny, and watch em all flip out at once they realize youre a scary human instead....   :roflsmiley:

another alternative anyway.

What a cute pup.  I am glad you rescued it.  I would love to get my hands on the people that could do this.  Then again, I would probably be the one going to jail!    :pullinghair:
